This is such a late comment but oh my gosh this channel is SO underrated! I found you guys a couple of weeks ago and have been listening to you guys at work. I started learning Mandarin at the beginning of this year casually and have been trying to study more everyday. I really needed an easier podcast to listen to since im still a beginner. I dont understand everything but it is helpful and I've been picking up a few words here and there :). So thank you guys so so much! I hope you guys cintinue doing what you do!
Very glad to have you with us! You don’t sound grumpy at all. We are on episode 362 now, so you have plenty of material to help. Also thanks for the kind words.
It almost feels really quaint that you two are complaining about the price of blueberries in this video here...
Now I can't stop singing chuckle vision 🤣🤣🤣 crackin show that 😂 The same mc hot dog from street dance of China? Well I never! Ages since I checked in on the podcast and how silly of me to leave it this long! Super entertaining and happy to work my way back through what I've missed You both sound great and congrats on all the episodes 😁

nice video
I like the thumbnail. Looks like futuristic Hong Kong, Tokyo or somewhere else in Southeast Asia.
I love these videos. I am learning Mandarin. I am struggling with the pronunciation of delicious and bus stop in mandarin. Help!
Their earliest videos from when they started out the channel helped me a lot too! The silly things that they did helped me remember words.

Where I live there is a...semi-national chain of film theatres that let you lie down to watch a movie. It is really expensive. I do not know what the price is for a child though.
You get to lie down fully? Where is the screen located?
@@MandarinMonkey Lie down yes. Kind of like how you lie down when you open a sofa bed! The seats are special. The overall theatre experience is similar. There is a big screen at the front that everyone looks at. It has been a long time since I have gone because of the price, but I think you can also order snacks and food to your seat and it is sent by a waiter.
You have a very interesting process!
你的视频总是很棒,谢谢!
I love your videos, but I don't often comment. I just wanted to say thank you for the content and especially for adding the vocabulary in the description. That is super helpful. I live in Beijing and have loved your podcast for a long time. Keep up the great work! God bless you and your family.
We appreciate that Bradley. Thanks for the kind words. Hope all is well in Beijing.

decent content. 谢谢你们啊! btw, are there Ula's siblings ok after the earthquake in TW? I hope they are!
Yeah our family in Taiwan is safe. Thank you. Glad you like the content 😊

没事,你很棒👍 Thanks for watching
1:19:00 | he's talking about morphemes. Though "-ed" is rough, it's not really accurate because it's technical not tenses, but "verbal aspects".
19:00 "go even further beyond!". I got that. xD
I'm currently learning Japanese and French so I don't have time for a third language! Still, I'm saving this for the future as I find Chinese incredibly fascinating.
I love listening to your podcasts, I’m working my way up from the beginning! As a nurse in the US though, just have to say there’s no way that story about a guy going to the hospital and choosing which finger he can afford to save is true. Hospitals are required to treat people regardless of if they can pay or not. Also, no way anyone would be able to give someone an estimate for surgery that quickly. It’s really hard to find out how much any medical care will cost here! I love hearing about medical terms in 中文 though!
Hey great to have you with us! We don’t remember this episode but maybe you are talking about this: www.npr.org/2007/06/22/11285514/moores-sicko-lands-blows-on-u-s-health-care That documentary talks about the case I think we referred to. Scroll down a little in the article or search for the word fingers and you will find what we were talking about.
我会read it haha. He uses both sometimes it's funny

We will definitely not be getting a boat. :) maybe renting one for a holiday break down the river sometime. But not buying for sure.

I clicked around on your videos. You both have a great charm and nice topics. Many things I love, however, I think you'd get a massive following if you had more videos with PinYin. I am quite sure if you had Pinyin in most of your videos, you'd probably have over 120,000 followers by now. I understand it's more work, but there may be a way it'll be worth it. Like, maybe do similar to Mandarin Corner, have PinYin and also offer a $30 membership access to all the scripts in Hanzi and PingYin. I am writing all this because I think you're both so charming and enjoyable to listen to, but, for me, without the PingYin, it's not as effective for me, so it will draw me to other channels that include the text. 😢. I hope you will consider it and then you can have over 100,000 subscribers and do similar business model as Mandarin Corner and make good profit also.
Thanks for the suggestion. We have considered adding subtitles, if that’s what you mean to our videos. Adding just pinyin would draw complaints from people who are trying to learn simplified characters, and traditional. We may try pinyin on one episode just to see if it adds value or if that video gets any more attention than without. Thanks for the thought, and the kind words. :)
@@MandarinMonkey hello again, yes, I meant adding subtitles, with both Hanzi/PingYin. I am nobody, so you don't have to take my suggestions. I just say all this because when I found your channel, because You're both very engaging, I wanted to binge watch on your videos, but then when I saw there is no PinYin on the screen, I started to tune out (due to my level). Y'all are so good and I think for a channel that is over 4 years old, you should have, at least, 70,000 followers due to your great teaching. When I look at the bigger channels, I believe all of them have the Hanzi/PinYin subtitles and I really think people at the level your targeting much prefer that because it makes the watch time much more EFFICIENT because we understand more and can take notes and review stuff. I'd say, look at the bigger channels and try to model some things, especially the subtitles. Also, I think you run into a challenge because, for those that don't need subtitles and can handle the listening comprehension, those people often get annoyed listening to 50% English. Those people want to keep the Chinese flow going, so they may not stick around. It seems the best fix would be the subtitles thing, that should help things grow more. I understand, this is more work for you, but, as I said, with a bigger following, income opportunities increase 😀. I really think the Mandarin Corner format of a membership payment would be awesome. I would pay for that, if you provide scripts of the chats. I know you get many warm compliments on how enjoyable your videos are, but don't get too comfortable with that, because you seem to be destined for MORE😀😀...Please humble yourselves and then be honest about only having 12 Subs, yet having great content... something is amiss, right? Lastly, you can't just try it for one video, as you said ..lol ..it has to be a commitment to try it for like 5 months. That is how you'll see the increase. Again, I'm a nobody, so you can dismiss all I said😀. Because y'all are awesome, I just want to see y'all have over 250,00 followers😀🥰😀
raising bilingual kids was a very different experience for me and my wife as 2nd generation Taiwanese-Americans. We didn't start learning Mandarin until our 20s (we both spoke Taiwanese with our parents) and so our Mandarin isn't that great, but when our kids were born we (and our parents) only spoke to them in Mandarin, ZERO English to them. Not even code switching. I think we learned from how our parents speak to us that code switching was a big problem because we never learned some of the most important words in a sentence in the mother tongue. Our kids learned English at school, they were pretty much ESL learners. Today our kids' (3rd generation Taiwanese-American) Mandarin is way better than ours. But they are an exception, we don't have any peers whose kids' Mandarin is even close to as good as our kids'. Our kids even get mad at us for speaking to them in English, which we need to do sometimes because our Mandarin isn't sufficient to explain certain things.
Truly interesting. We are not sure if there is a ‘correct’ way to raise bilingual children. We hope we are doing it the ‘right’ way or a right way. Very glad it worked out for you and your children!
@@MandarinMonkey Thank you! I'm not sure either. What we did worked with our kids, but it's possible it might not have worked with other kids. It could be a nature vs nurture thing, where our kids were just born more predisposed to the mother tongue, whereas we know kids that just want to be more Americanized. oh, and my wife bought tons of comics in Mandarin. I think that helped a lot too.
